1807 Historic Sumner Mansion Inn - 5 Bedrooms/5 Modern Baths
Sumner Mansion Inn is listed with the National Historic Register as being built in 1807 according to a plan by renowned architect Asher Benjamin who spent time in the area before heading to Boston and designing a number of Beacon Hill's brownstones. The inn retains much of its original charm, although it has been much expanded and updated. The bedrooms are very large and charming; some have working fireplaces and all have full baths and air conditioning. (The Marquis de Lafayette and family occupied one of them during his 1825 return trip to the states.)
The banquet sized dining room and library have been the setting for many weddings and other special events. The grounds boast lovely gardens and the supposedly second oldest maple tree in Vermont.
Three of the bedrooms have queen sized beds, one has two twins and one has two doubles. The last is not available unless this is for a longer term rental. Other rooms could accommodate sleepers as well.
Sumner Mansion is in the heart of Hartland although it feels entirely private. It is less than a mile from Route 91 interstate and near Ascutney Mt., Killington and Suicide Six ski areas. There are numerous cross country ski options available right in town. Woodstock, Hanover and 6 museums are within a 20 minute ride.
